Tax Abatement

Housing Assistance
Zearing participates in the Ames/Story County Partnership. This partnership has two homebuyer programs available:
Rural Development Mortgage Participation Program
Assists buyers who have incomes at 80% or below the Story County median with 100%
financing (no down payment needed) and a grants towards closing costs to purchase
a new or existing home in Zearing or other participating communities.
Down payment and Closing Cost Assistance Program
Assists low and moderate-income homebuyers with the purchase of their first home or
"second" new or existing home in Zearing or other participating communities. Under
this program you may receive a very low interest loan of up to approximately $15,000
towards the down payment, a 100% grant of up to $2,000 towards the closing costs, and,
if needed, a very low interest loan of up to $5,000 for minor home repairs when
purchasing an existing home, to meet program housing standards.
