Swimming Lessons

This program is offered in the summer for beginners on up. Lessons are held in the Nevada at the aquatic center. A bus will take the children to and from the pool.

American Red Cross Swim Lesson Levels

Level 1 - Introduction to Water Skills
Helps students feel comfortable in the water and enjoy the water safely. Participants must be at least 5 years old to begin Red Cross Swim Lessons. Skills learned: Entry and Exit, Blowing Bubbles, Open Eyes Under Water, Floating, Alternating Arm and Leg Actions, Water Safety Rules, Life Jacket Safety.

Level 2 - Fundamental Aquatic Skills
Gives students success with various fundamental swimming and safety skills. Skills learned: Stepping or Jumping into the Pool, Water Bobs, Submerge Entire Head, Front Float (face in water), Front Glide, Back Float, Back Glide, Combined Arm and Leg Actions on Front, Finning and Sculling Arm Action.

Level 3 - Stroke Development
Builds on skills in Level 2 by providing additional guided practice. Skills learned: Jump into Deep Water, Head First Entry (sitting or kneeling), Submerge and Retrieve Object, Rotary Breathing, Front Glide with Kick, Back Float, Vertical to Horizontal Position on Front and Back, Tread Water, Front Crawl, Butterfly Kick, and Body Motion, Back Crawl, Reaching Assist, Check, Call, Care.

Level 4 - Stroke Improvement
Develops confidence in the strokes learned and improves other aquatic skills. Skills learned: Dive (compact or stride), Swim Underwater, Feet First Surface Dive, Survival Float, Back Float, Treading Water (advanced techniques), Front Crawl, Breathstroke, Butterfly, Back Crawl, Elementary Backstroke, Scissors Kick, Save Diving, Compact Jump, Throwing Assist, Caring for a Choking Victim.

Level 5 - Stroke Refinement
Provides further coordination and refinement of strokes. Shallow Dive and Glide with any Front Stroke, Swim Underwater, Tuck and Puck Surface Dive, Survival Float, Back Float, Flip Turn, Tread Water (advanced), Front Crawl, Butterfly, Breathstroke, Back Crawl, Elementary Back Stroke, Sidestroke, Survival Swimming, Rescue Breathing.

Level 6 - Swimming and Skill Proficiency
Refines the strokes so students swim them with ease, efficiency, power, and smoothness over greater distances. Level 6 is designed with "menu" options. Each of these options focuses on preparing students to participate in more advance courses such as Water Safety Instruction and Lifegaurd Training. This year , we will be teaching: Personal Water Safety(PWS) and Lifeguard Readiness (LR)
